On today’s show I am talking to Dr. Rachna Patel, a physician that specializes in cannabinoids and has been treating patients with CBD and medical marijuana since 2012. Dr. Patel joins us to discuss her work and to answer listener questions.
Initially on the path to becoming and emergency room physician, Rachna ventured into cannabinoids after seeing an add on Craigslist asking for a medical marijuana doctor. She began to research medical cannabis and how physicians can become specialists in the field. At the time, she was training in emergency medicine and wanted to change lives, but all she was doing was prescribing pain meds and then trying to fix the problems caused by those same medications.
Rachna began working in a medical marijuana clinic in 2012 when she wanted to see the patient experience. The outcome was astounding, as so-called resistant patients were responding to cannabinoid medicine in a way that changed their day to day. From there, she developed treatment protocols based on research and patient experiences to create consistent outcomes. Then, Rachna went on to start her own practice in order to provide a more comprehensive holistic approach to patients. In 2017, Rachna closed her practice to pivot to an online practice in order to have a global reach.
Rachna goes on to take us through the difference between hemp and marijuana products and common side effects of cannabinoid use. We hear about how and why treatments vary between people.
To end today’s episode, Rachna discusses cannabinoid delivery methods and the differences between external and internal use. She also discusses vaping cannabis safely and drug interactions.
